Phase retrieval and nonlinear dynamical systems

Abstract

In the following proposal, the PI will engage aspects of phase/object retrieval. On the physical side, he will generalize the optical systems to include nonlinear propagation. He will explore dynamics in common photorefractive crystals and introduce a new form of digital nonlinearity using electro-optic feedback. On the algorithmic side, he will show that nonlinear transfer functions lead to singular behavior in convergence and map the problem to similar behavior in dynamical systems. He will also relax the constraint of known support to looser estimates of the object domain. Figures of merit for both support and image quality will be developed, along with new improved algorithms.
