Hypersonic Wind Tunnel Testing

Abstract

This grant will support low to medium TRL research in association with AFRL to be performed in the University of Oxford University of Oxford high speed wind tunnels – the High Density Tunnel and the T6 Stalker tunnel. The research will focus on research surrounding the development of hypersonic vehicles for flight of interest to AFRL. Specifically, the experiments will focus on aerodynamics, combustion and heat transfer to provide insight into the underlying physics, integration of technologies into a flight vehicle and provide validation data for numerical tool development. Primarily, the funding will be used to support a senior Postdoc Research Fellow which will work closely with a PhD student supported by DSTL. The postdoc will work closely with the Osney Lab researchers and members of AFRL. The funding will also be utilised for tunnel test time, with additional tunnel testing being supported internally and through other external grants.
