Acquisition of Oxide Molecular Beam Epitaxy for Highly-Perfect Oxide Thin Films and Heterostructures

Abstract

The proposal is for purchase of a molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) system dedicated to synthesis of oxides. It will be used for materials research, education, and student training. Building on recent breakthroughs in the PIs’ laboratories, especially that of Prof. Jalan, the equipment will be the first-of-its-kind in the USA to enable materials synthesis of advanced functional materials at nanoscale with structures and interfacial qualities that are similar to or exceed those of conventional compound semiconductors.
