New Materials Systems for Quantum Defects

Abstract

Using our spectroscopy and processing pipeline for rapid feedback, we will identify high purityhost materials that are suitable for ion implantation, and we will explore different types of point defects in these materials, including molecular color centers, transition metal ions, and rare earth ions. In particular, we aim to map out parameter space to elucidate the design principles of new quantum defects. This work will enable emerging technologies in quantum information processing, nanoscale sensing, quantum metrology, and quantum communication.
