Rotation, Shift and Scale Invariant Ultrafast Automatic Image Recognition Using an Opto-Electronic Correlator

Abstract

Investigate the feasibility of realizing a hybrid optoelectronic correlator that will combine techniques from analog holographic storage, digital holography, and on-chip signal processing to produce an ultrafast automatic image recognition system, with a correlation speed of few microseconds per database image, nearly three orders of magnitude faster than the best current alternative using Digital Signal Processing (DSP). Furthermore, combine Polar Logarithmic Transform(PLT) with optical Fourier Transform (FT), rendering the correlator insensitive to spatial shift, angular orientation and scaling.
