Investigation of Ionic Liquid Monopropellant Plasma using Optical Diagnostic Techniques

Abstract

The objective of the proposed research is to examine reaction dynamics to provide an understanding of reaction mechanisms during the ionization process of hydroxylammonium nitrate (HAN) and 2-hydroxyethyl-hydrazinium nitrate (HEHN) in low-pressure environments, for a better understanding of the reaction dynamics during the ionization process with the RF plasma, and the complementary optical diagnostic techniques to obtain new data on this process. The experiments may offer an opportunity of studying catalytic decomposition by adding catalyst to the tube. Objective addresses the possibility of non-catalytic ignition using thermal energy.
