Exploring new concepts towards multi mode low power robust electric propulsion

Abstract

The objective of this proposal is to explore potential high thrust and specific impulse via anode ablation, magnetic nozzle, and pulsed magneto hydro dynamic operation in a micro cathode arc thruster. During this study, they will also investigate self healing process through cathode material deposition on the insulator to reduce the breakdown voltage, leading to lifetime increase of the thruster.
