More than Piezoelectricity: Harnessing Electroactive Materials for Functional Energetics

Abstract

The objective of this effort is to design, and characterize new energetic materials that exhibit both piezoelectric and flexoelectric mechanisms, via synthesis and fabrication, material characterization, and performance characterization. The scope of this proposal will be limited to a set of materials that could offer significant improvements to propulsive performance as a whole, by exploring the role of piezoelectricity and flexoelectricity in the binders typically used in propellant formulations, and how structure can enhance their properties.
