Intelligent Self Healing Composite Structure Using Predictive Self Healing and Dynamic Data Driven Application Systems

Abstract

The objectives of the proposed research are the proof of concept demonstration and laboratory scale fabrication and testing of a next generation intelligent self healing fiberreinforced laminated composite structure. The structure will be able to prevent irreparable damages by conducting repeated predictive self healing using a damage prognosis model that is recursively updated by sensors based measurements within the framework of the Dynamic Data Driven Application Systems (DDDAS) paradigm. The proposed work is within the scope of the Basic Research Objectives of the AFOSR DDDAS program which states: “Applications modeling: In DDDAS an application-simulation must be able to accept data at execution time and be dynamically steered by such dynamic data inputs.”
