REPULSIVE DIPOLE-QUADRUPOLE AND QUADRUPOLE-QUADRUPOLE INTERACTIONS
Abstract
Van der Waals interactions are investigated in physics, chemistry, biology, and other fields of research. A common misconception about van der Waals interactions is that they are attractive. This is only true for ground state atoms. For excited atoms, van der Waals interactions can be repulsive. Since the discovery of van der Waals interactions in the 1870s, repulsive van der Waals interactions have been rarely studied until recently.
