Short Range Order and Electronic Entropy: from Melts to Solids

Abstract

Herein we propose to enable improved predictions of thermodynamic properties with temperature and composition across high temperature solid and liquid phases. For this, we will evaluate entropy as both the key descriptor of order and as a means to connect high temperature solid-state phases with high temperature liquids. In particular, we will evaluate how a measurement of the electronic entropy in a melt and at the solid/liquid transformation can help computational methods to better inform high temperature materials thermodynamics and synthesis methods.
