COUPLED PIV/DIC SYSTEM FOR DIAGNOSTICS OF ADAPTIVE AERO-STRUCTURES CONTROLLED BY FLUID-STRUCTURE INTERACTIONS

Abstract

It is proposed to acquire a coupled, high-resolution Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) and Digital Image Correlation (DIC) system for investigations of controlled fluid-structure interactions between wing surfaces and the embedding flow for effecting tunable structural and aeroelastic properties. A unique element of the proposed PIV/DIC system is that it will enable simultaneous, phase-locked measurements of the reciprocal coupling between the flow over the surface and the surface motion at up to 100 Hz.
