CENTER OF EXCELLENCE PHASE II: SELF-HEALING TO MORPHOGENIC MANUFACTURING

Abstract

Prior research in the Center of Excellence (CoE) in Self-Healing, Regeneration and Structural Remodeling has addressed the entire life cycle of multifunctional composites materials – from developing new methods of manufacturing, to healing and regeneration following extensive damage, to imparting dynamic adaptability and ultimately remodeling of polymeric materials. For the next phase of research effort for the CoE, a new team proposes two major thrusts: (i) morphogenic manufacturing of multifunctional materials and (ii) self-healing and durability in space environments. The research is highly interdisciplinary and collaborative, spanning materials science, chemistry, mechanics and advanced computational modeling.
