(DURIP) HIGH-SPEED IMAGING SYSTEM FOR ROTATING DETONATION COMBUSTION AND NOZZLE EXPANSION PROCESSES
Abstract
Funds are requested from AFOSR to procure two PHANTOM V2512 cameras and associated optics for highspeed visualization of detonation and combustion in rotating detonation engines. The two cameras will provide synchronized views of the combustion annulus and the nozzle plume to enhance understanding of detonation wave propagation through the combustor onto the nozzle surfaces. A z-type Schlieren system will be developed to enhance imaging of shock and expansion waves emanating from the combustor exit plane and in the nozzle nearfield region. Shape and motion of these structures will enhance understanding of local wave strength and speed.
