CONTROL-BASED NON-HERMITIAN ACTIVE METAMATERIALS FOR ODD ELASTODYNAMICS

Abstract

This project will leverage the active metamaterial research by proposing control-based non-Hermitian elastic metamaterials that utilize inter-connected circuits to potentially overcome the stability limitations of the active circuits. In the meantime, the PI will develop a systematic theory of non-Hermitian active metamaterials for the first time to discover and interpret odd elastodynamic behaviors and explore new topological waveguiding which is impossible in passive metamaterials and metastructures. This research is an important step towards many striking applications in large aerospace structures with odd elasticity.
