CREATING NEW RESEARCH AND EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES AT THE NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY THROUGH METAL ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING

Abstract

This proposal seeks funds for the acquisition of a Binder Jet metallic 3D printer for the College of Engineering (COE) on the main campus of New Mexico State University (NMSU). Binder Jetting is an additive manufacturing (AM) process in which a liquid binding agent is selectively deposited to join powder particles. Layers of different types of materials such as sand, metal and ceramic are then bonded to form an object. Because of the simplicity and efficiency, binder jet additive manufacturing is becoming one of the most common technique for the AM process for metallic parts. The binder jet additive machine that we seek is Innovent+ that is a binder jet system manufactured by ExOne company. Innovent+ is designed to reliably produce functional parts in a variety of materials.
