QUANTUM COHERENCE AND QUANTUM INTERACTIONS IN MICROTUBULES AND SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT
Abstract
Microtubule is an important component of any biological system responsible for information and material transport. Microtubulues are involved in a number of biophysical processes induced or mediated by electromagnetic waves including but not limited to optical excitation making those processes extremely susceptible to coherent properties of light and subsequent quantum effects. While many of the proposed theories and indirect experimental indications provide an overall guidance, there is no comprehensive assessment of quantum coherence effects in such structures and no direct connection to physiological processes, especially those related to the Air Force mission, such as electromagnetic biostimulation, is available. This knowledge gap will be addressed in the proposed research, which is based on synergistic interactions of AFRL (Ft. Sam Houston), University of Queensland (Australia) and Texas AandM University to elucidate quantum coherent properties of microtubules and surrounding water. The underlying hypothesis is that microtubules in biologically relevant environment possess quantum properties, which can be affected through external electromagnetic excitation. The proposed research program builds upon the unique strength of the Institute for Quantum Science and Engineering at Texas AandM University and addresses key research areas of the Biophysics Program at the AFOSR. The research team has established a working partnership with the AFRL (Ft. Sam Houston, TX) and the University of Queensland. The proposed research will provide new insights on microtubules’ dynamics, while advancing our understanding of cellular machinery and its potential interfacing with external devices. The research program will produce qualified scientists and engineers, who will facilitate the Air Force’s mission. PREVIEW
