Rapid (on-Demand) Control of Shock-Dominated Flows by Filamentary Plasma

Abstract

This research focuses on the effect of recently discovered plasma lattices on shock-dominated flows.Preliminary tests demonstrated that the unsteady thermally stratified media mitigates the reflected shock wave (SW), triggering a pressure redistribution of shock-dominated flows on a time scale that is orders of magnitude shorter than that of mechanical systems. This aerodynamic phenomenon offers a new approach towards the manipulation of unsteady flows under hypersonic - supersonic environments.
