(CONFERENCE) DYNAMICS, TOPOLOGY, COMPLEXITY AND BIOLOGY

Abstract

The conference and workshop will treat problems and current research on the role of dynamics and topology in questions of complexity and control, and relate them to various applications suchas biology. This follows a long tradition going back to the French mathematician and physicist, Henri Poincare. He was a polymath in an age where there were very few scientists who knew all areas. Now we must consider an interdisciplinary approach to draw all relevant expertise to work together on these problems. Steven Smale has been, since the middle of the last century, one of the strongest representatives of Poincares approach to dynamics and science. We will organize the meeting around Smales approaches to dynamics, complexity and control. We willhave a very interdisciplinary set of participants come together to take stock of where the field istoday and what are its possible advances next in line.
