Electron-Beam Generated ExB Plasma for Air- Breathing Propulsion

Abstract

The objective of this proposal is to study the generation and acceleration of air plasmas relevant to ultra-low Earth orbits, through electron-beam generated E×B plasma Thruster for ionization and ion acceleration. The major goal is to determine the feasibility of effective ionization of air by electron beams at low pressures, as well as evaluating the transport properties of a magnetized air plasma at low pressures, magnetic confinement and acceleration.
