Mass and Charge Evolution in Electrospray Plumes for High Delta-V Thrusters

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate the plume evolution of a single emission site for both droplet-dominated and ion-dominated operating conditions, through experimental work using quartz micro balances to measure the mass flux of electrospray plumes, and computational modeling. This will allow the plume evolution to be examined in a canonical experimental and computational construct using a combination of experimental measurements, analytical life modeling, and physics-based computational modeling.
