Tailoring partially coherent OAM beams for atmospheric propagation

Abstract

The overall goal will be to develop effective eigensets of partially coherent optical/laser vortex beams that can be used for a given atmospheric channel, with Orbital Angular Momentum modes as distinguishable and separable at the detector as possible. The studies of simple mode combinations will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the model partially coherent beams currently in use. The optimization process will ideally give insight as to the longest propagation distances over which vortices may be reliably used in applications.
