Exploratory Study of the Decomposition and Combustion Process of Ionically Conducting Gel and Solid Propellants

Abstract

The objective of the proposed research is to explore the potential of providing control on demand of solid propellant combustion by systematically studying the effects of an electric stimulus in the condensed phase of individual propellant constituents, such as energetic salts and conducting polymers. First, they will study combustion properties of pelletized solid oxidizers and oxidizer blends, then they will formulate propellants with both conducting and non-conducting polymers in order to evaluate their applicability towards controllable solid propellants.
