Multiscale characterization of collective astrocyte dynamics

Abstract

The present proposal will study the collective dynamics of astrocytes from multiple perspectives. Measurements will include measurements of cytoskeletal dynamics of actin, measurements of calcium dynamics, and measurements of associated nanostructures of water channels (aquaporins). The collective operation of astrocyte networks will be studied under conditions that best foster an in –vivo like physiology of astrocytes. The objective is to identify what combinations of biophysical attributes of astrocyte are most important for the development and collective functioning of model neural circuits.
