Ultra-broadband speckle imaging for space domain awareness

Abstract

The proposed research will allow the Air Force to use their current ground-based telescopes to detect and characterize satellites and space debris over a broader range of sizes and distances from Earth than is presently achieved. Moreover, the observations will require minimal upgrades to existing hardware. The research will also provide the means to characterize a wider range of satellite types (or classes) than is currently realized. Finally, the proposed study will enable us to better monitor the health (i.e., level of deterioration and functionality) of our assets in space. Each of the above advances represents a signi cant improvement for Space Domain Awareness.
