Exploring Many-body Quantum Chemistry with Molecular Bose-Einstein Condensates

Abstract

A milestone in molecular physics research, Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of molecules, is recently accomplished. In a molecular BEC, all molecules are prepared in an identical quantum state and act in unison as a single macroscopic molecule. In this regime, chemistry is conjectured to take on new forms, dubbed quantum super-chemistry , where quantum statistics and quantum coherence play a dominant role. This proposal describes an exploratory research program to investigate chemical reactions in the quantum many-body regime.
