Research on Two-Dimensional (2D) Materials and Manufacturing

Abstract

The proposed research is a joint effort between a multi-university team and a small business to address a variety of research sub-topics in two-dimensional (2-D) materials and to provide critical readiness capabilities to cadets/midshipmen, and hands-on laboratory training to civilian students at participating universities. The research sub-topics include materials preparation, physical and chemical properties analysis, formation of different classes of the layered structures to form hybrid materials, simulation and modeling, and applications arising from the development of 2D materials. The multi-university team includes Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs), and mentoring universities. Collaborations will be organized based on the research capabilities of the large universities’ readiness to collaborate with smaller universities, particularly with HBCUs and MSIs, in sub-topic areas of interest to the basic research objectives of the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), and the geographical locations of the institutions.
