A quantum holistic trust model for calibrating trusted interactions between a human agent and AI system

Abstract

A quantum holistic trust model for calibrating trusted interactions between a human agent and AI system. The objective of this proposal is to model the gap between a human agent’s expectation of an AI system and their perceived trust while interacting with the system. This will be driven by novel research into interactive trust, stemming from theories within the field of quantum cognition, with the aim of producing innovative theory-backed approaches. The outcome of this project is an empirically tested theoretical model for the calibration of dynamically changing expectations of human and AI system. A simulated AI prototype system will assist a human decision-maker in a decision scenario. The simulation will be programmed to display specific configurations of information based on the scenario, together with trust expectation audits. Data collected from the audits will prime the quantum holistic model of trust expectation, the aim of which is to capture the agent holistically sensing trust across reliability and benevolence. A bistable probability model then estimates the gap between the expected and perceived trust, which will be complemented with a neurophysiological measure of trust expectation and associated confidence in that expectation. The nature of the gap between expected and perceived trust allows three types of intervention to be identified- benevolence trust building, reliability trust building and combined benevolence and reliability trust building. The potential impact of this project derives from providing novel means to dynamically promote trusted interactions between humans and intelligent machines.
