ROOM TEMPERATURE MORPHOGENESIS OF METALS

Abstract

The goal of this proposal is to enable room temperature morphogenesis of metals by understanding how the material properties and healing ability of metals are influenced by morphology changes from electrochemical deposition and stripping. The fundamental understanding and technological capabilities realized in this project will enable metal structures that adapt their physical properties to their environment and self-heal without human aid at ambient conditions. This capability will improve the operating time and adaptability of Air Force technologies in environments where human intervention is difficult or impossible, such as in space or on extended terrestrial missions.
