(DURIP) ADVANCED MATERIALS AND DEVICES FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE RF APPLICATIONS
Abstract
In this proposal, investigators from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Department of Physics and Department of Material and Science Engineering (MSE) at the University of Delaware request funds to develop a new material development capability by using a new evaporator system. Completing this capability will enable us to advance materials and devices capability for high performance RF applications. This new evaporator system combines both electron beam evaporation and thermal evaporation system, with water cooled rotatable substrate stage for sequential deposition of various metals, dielectrics and other various semiconductor compounds and will be used in advancing various kinds of material and device technology studies at the University of Delaware. This system, when combined with the University of Delaware’s Nanofab Facility (UDNF) and Advanced Material Characterization Laboratory (AMCL), allows for various materials and devices and system fabrication and characterization capabilities. This will facilitate a number of interesting applications, including engineered electromagnetic materials, high frequency optical modulators, high speed transistors, optoelectronic devices, RF spintronic devices, microelectromechanical systems, RF photonic integration circuits, etc.
