(DURIP) LONG DURATION MACH 6 WIND TUNNEL FACILITY FOR HYPERSONIC RESEARCH

Abstract

North Carolina State University has awarded an initiation grant to construct a Mach 6 wind tunnel that will facilitate foundational hypersonics research and technology maturation. This facility will be operational by the Summer of 2022. The goal of this DURIP grant is to upgrade this facility by elevating its freestream Reynolds number and stagnation temperature to flight relevant conditions. This upgrade will vastly enhance the range of flow phenomena that could be studied and generate validation quality datasets over a variety of aerothermodynamic challenges of hypersonic flight that will contribute to the development of the predictive capabilities.
