ENHANCEMENT OF THE CHANNEL WALL EROSION WITH APPLICATION TO ACCELERATE TESTING OF HALL THRUSTERS

Abstract

The objective of the proposal is to accelerate ground vacuum testing echanisms for Hall thrusters to reduce the development timelines. Three strategies of the accelerated testing are proposed- 1) acceleration through modification of material state, 2) acceleration through elevated operating conditions and 3) combination of modified materials and elevated operating conditions. These strategies will be verified in experiments with Hall thrusters and sputtering experiments with calibrated ion sources. All experiments will be supported by modeling efforts.
