(MINERVA) CULTURAL TRANSFORMATIONS IN RESPONSE TO DIFFERENT CLIMATE SHOCKS AND HAZARDS

Abstract

Research Problem. Given increased severity, frequency and even unpredictability of both slow- and fastĀonset climate-related hazards around the world, it becomes more and more compelling to understand how groups establish practices that enhance major facets of resilience to shocks in societies that vary in size, market integration, population change, and inequality. We need to know whether practices around norms, cooperation, governance, beliefs-religiosity, and subsistence that support societal wellbeing are influenced in patterned ways by the various qualities or dimensions of climate hazards or shocks.
