STRUCTURAL BATTERIES FOR EXTREME ENVIRONMENTS

Abstract

The objective of this proposal is to understand, predict, and verify the major factors toward enhancing energy and mechanical properties for dual-ion batteries in extreme environments using integrated experiments and physics-based modeling through investigating electrochemistry, structural dual-ion electrodes and bicontinuous epoxy electrolytes for low-temperatures, electrochemo-mechanical coupling at varying strains and at high strain-rate, quantifying electrochemomechanical coupling, and demonstrate device-level response to extreme environments and mass savings both experimentally and theoretically.
