SCATTERING BODIES ARE MATRIX-VALUED OSCILLATORS

Abstract

This proposal centers around the development of a new representation of scattering matrices in electromagnetism. The key idea is that the frequency response of any scatterer is decomposable into Drude-Lorentz-like oscillators with matrix-valued coefficients, analogous to our understanding of the properties of optical materials themselves.
