A NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF TRANSPIRATION COOLING FOR TRANSITIONAL AND TURBULENT FLOWS OVER SLENDER BODIES

Abstract

The proposed research study employs high-fidelity numerical simulations to address significant gaps in the understanding of the effects of distributed mass injection (DMI) and TC applied to transitional and turbulent flows. DMI and TC will be applied in stagnation regions with complementary downstream mass injection (see Fig. 1) for large Reynolds number flows and injection rates where both transitional and turbulent flow regimes are present and lower cooling efficiencies are typically observed.
