Topological Insulators in Magneto-optical Media

Abstract

Topological insulators in electromagnetic systems are to be studied and modeled. Specifically, Chern insulators, such as magneto-optical lattices, are to be examined. Effective tight binding reductions will be derived that capture the dynamics, yet are simple enough to study analytically. The fundamental goal of this project is to study linear and nonlinear topological insulators and the topologically protected modes they can support.
