Photon Processes in Channel Dynamics, Instabilities and Nonequilibrium Surface Plasmas

Abstract

The DoD is fully committed to a wide range of applications involving high power electromagnetic radiation including directed energy weapons and defense technology vacuum electronics. High power systems are of particular interest but the fundamental limits of the technology are yet to be known. Devices such as amplifiers are particularly attractive for high power operation because of their inherent capability for both waveform diversity as well as waveform agility. We seek to establish the fundamental limits or at least the factors influencing it.
