Understanding Influence using Personality-driven Profiles and Prevention (IP3).

Abstract

National and international security is being systematically eroded by the efforts of adversarial state and non-state actors who seek to cause uncertainty and confusion, while eroding basic principles of a safe and healthy society through the creation and spread of misinformation, disinformation, and violent extremist propaganda. In response to the pressing national security concerns caused by the spread, evolution, and disruption caused by harmful online materials, in this proposal we use a novel psychological and psychophysiological framework of motivation, coupled with inter-disciplinary experimental research approaches, to disaggregate the multiple modes of activation that can occur during exposure to harmful online materials.
