Support for the International Conference on Laser Spectroscopy

Abstract

This proposal solicits support for the 25th International Conference on Laser Spectroscopy to be held in Estes Park, Colorado June 25 to 30, 2023. This historically significant conference has been a mainstay of the field of Atomic, Molecular, and Optical physics, as evidenced by the large number of attendees who have gone on to win Nobel prizes, and was the venue at which the realization of BEC and quantum gates were announced for the first time. The current topics covered are of direct relevance to supporting AFOSR’s broader investment in Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics, as well as quantum sensing, communication, and information. Specifically, the scientific program will include atomic and molecular laser spectroscopy, precision spectroscopy and metrology, laser cooling and trapping, degenerate gasses (BECs and cold fermions), cold collisions, cold molecules, matter wave interferometry, quantum optics, quantum information based on spectroscopic methods, advanced laser sources, nonlinear optics and spectroscopy, ultrafast spectroscopy, optical combs, atoms in high fields, novel applications of laser spectroscopy, spectroscopic tests of fundamental physics, spectroscopy-enabled applications, and more. The provided funds will be used to support broad participation in this conference, advancing collaborations and exchange of ideas.
