Non-invasive Cell-type-specific Magnetic Neural Modulation

Abstract

The P aims to develop a remotely controlled non-invasive neural modulation technique (Figure 1) to improve human abnormal electrical signaling in the brain, such as seizures in Epilepsy. This technique relies on genetically introducing conductive proteins on the neural cell membrane and consequently achieving neural excitation-inhibition through transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), which is used as an FDA-approved treatment for human mental disorders. The success of this project will bring a new technology to ameliorate human brain health in air and space forces, and enable the investigation of brain function perturbed with Magnetic energy.
