Nonlinear dynamics of smart material systems

Abstract

Investigate the nonlinear dynamics and chaos in smart material systems. The project will explore different kinds of smart materials and configurations to enhance energy harvesting capacity, with a focus on the nonlinear dynamics perspective. The project will be developed over a 36-month period and will require a budget of $40k per year, including graduate student fellowships, research fellowships, international travels, materials and supplies, and experimental support. The project has the potential to impact several fields of science and engineering, including aerospace, oil and gas, robotics, and bioengineering devices.
