A symposium on Principles of Quantum Matter

Abstract

The objective of this proposal is to raise funds for organizing a conference on the present and future of quantum matter, a broad field encompassing quantum materials, quantum devices, and quantum entanglement. Drawing attendance using the 60th birthday of Prof. Charles Kane, a renowned pioneer and internationally recognized leader on the study of topological quantum matter, this conference will bring together the world s leading experts to discuss present and pressing problems in the development and applications of the field. This conference represents a truly unique opportunity to assemble in person perhaps the largest density of theoretical and experimental quantum matter experts in a focused setting since the COVID-19 pandemic. The planned discussions will have immediate and far-ranging impact on fundamental sciences, and may provide alternative solutions to the urgent national needs specified in National Quantum Initiative Act and the CHIPS and Science Act.
