Single quantum state molecular beam for cold chemistry

Abstract

In this project, we will investigate translational and rovibrational cooling of Rb2 molecules produced by a supersonic beam. In such cool molecular beam, we will perform molecular spectroscopy as well as colisional experiments. The cooling process will be perform using a combination of Zeeman slowing technique and optical pumping. The experiment will be carried out at Prof. Marcassa s group at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil. The main goal in this project is to study such molecules in a single well defined quantum state. The French group, led by Dr. Bouloufa s, will carry out molecular structure calculations which will be implemented into various numerical codes for dynamical calculations (grid methods, wave packet propagation, close coupling methods). Such calculations will allow them to contribute to guide experimental investigations, and to interpret experimental results, leading to a positive experimenttheory feedback.
