In-Flight Measurements of Species Emission Spectra behind a Hypersonic Bow Shock using the HyCUBE Sensor Probe

Abstract

A flight experiment to measure species emission spectra behind the bow shock of a hypersonic re-entry vehicle is proposed. The experiment is focused on acquiring these measurements at altitudes between 50 and 80 km and speeds in excess of Mach 16. The experiment aims to acquire emission spectra that include a range of wavelengths designed to characterize N2, NO, N+ and O+ emissions.
