Beam Combining and Adaptive Optics with Photonic Lanterns

Abstract

The purpose of this project is to purchase key equipment to strengthen core capabilities in high temperature materials characterization at Utah State University (USU). Specifically, the proposed equipment consists of (1) a high-speed stereo camera system to measure strain directly from the surface of a deforming test specimen; (2) an ultraviolet (UV) amplifier to extend the high-speed measurements to higher temperatures; and (3) a long-range microscope for imaging at high magnifications from long working distances.
