Hypersonic atmospheric reentry vehicles play a crucial role in addressing key Grand Challenges of Engineering, particularly in areas related to scientific discovery tools and nuclear terror prevention. Given their significance in national security, the rapid advancement of this field is hindered by the need for reliable and efficient heat shield materials capable of withstanding the intense heat loads during reentry flights.
