Ferrimagnetic Materials for Fast Nanoscale Information Processing

Abstract

The PIs in this project will conduct a comprehensive investigation of ferrimagnetic (FIM) materials based on rare earth-transition metal RE-TM alloys as alternatives to both ferromagnetic (FM) and antiferromagnetic (AFM) materials in view of exploiting the unique properties of this class of FIM materials to advance conventional spintronic devices, such as spin valves and magnetic tunnel junctions working in the terahertz regime of frequencies, and investigate innovative device concepts such as multi-bit memories, novel computing architectures that combine memory units with logic gates (computing in memory - CIM), additional logic gate concepts utilizing domain walls and skyrmion motion, and neuromorphic (memristive) computing, among others.
