US-Japan Quantum Electronics and Laser Spectroscopy (QELS) 14 Workshop

Abstract

We request funding to support US-Japan QELS-14, the fourteenth installment of a longstanding meeting in atomic physics and laser spectroscopy, aimed and building collaborations and sharing ideas between leading scientists in the US and Japan. The theme of US-Japan QELS-14 is Emerging tools for quantum control of atoms, photons and electrons . Topics will include applications of atom arrays, quantum gas microscopes, molecules and quantum circuits to precision measurement, sensing, quantum information, and quantum computation. The US-Japan Joint Seminar on Quantum Electronics and Laser Spectroscopy was established to promote research, development and collaboration between US and Japanese researchers. It has been held regularly since 1977 either in the United States or in Japan. The last four Seminars were held in Kanazawa (2018), Madison (2015), Nara (2013), and Breckenridge (2006). Following the traditions of the Seminar, the conference presentations will be made by invited speakers from Japan and the United States, with a few speakers from other nations. The goal will be to advance research and future collaborations through open and active discussions among speakers and a selected audience of other attendees. Particularly as quantum technologies approach maturity, maintaining a close connection with leaders is crucial. The conference will take place from September 24-27, 2024 on the campus of Stanford University.
