Evaluation of Event Cameras for 2D3C Velocimetry

Abstract

The proposed extension of the current work aims to extend the evaluation of event-based cameras for three dimensional particle tracking. An event camera operates on a fundamentally different principle compared to traditional cameras. Instead of capturing frames at fixed intervals, an event camera registers data only when a change, such as particle motion relative to the background, occurs. The sensor directly outputs a stream of asynchronous events with microsecond resolution, each containing the location, intensity, and timing information of the detected changes. This makes it an excellent tool for tracking tracer particles in flows, including those in three dimensions.
